The Commerce Department said Friday that it will put a major research center for semiconductor design in Sunnyvale, California, a day after the department sited another research hub in upstate New York.
Oregon political and economic development officials still hope to land a site devoted to packaging — connecting computer chips to other components — and prototyping new designs. A decision is due later this fall.
